Scamed on autotrader by "supposed" Dr

Hello My name is Neil

I have decided to make this my first and probably my only because i wasnt a victum but i was very close to being scamed by this person on autotrader.
Currently im looking to buy a car and on the 5th of january 09 i was browesing the irish car buyers sites online
I came across a lovley renault clio on auto trader for a great price 900 euro for a 2002 model i couldnt resist taking a look and proceeded onto emailing the "supposed" seller taking in mind these cars are priced around 5000 euro.
I received a email back explaining his circumstances Which seemed reasonable enough but made me suspious enough to do some research into car selling frauds i came across a car fraud warning in the irishtimes website when i googled car selling fraud ireland.
My story matched the story in the paper by about 70% with a few minor differnces.
as i proceed to email the seller about the car he explained how he wasnt in the country but assured me he would get a flight to london to collect the car where it was being stored in a mates garage then he would proceed onto ireland to show me the car and arrange the sale.
At this point i thought to my self it "this is alot of work for 900 euro on his behalf" but agreed to the idea.
After i agreed as far as i can remember it was the next day he emaild me to tell me his "friend" informed him of a website that is a logistic company and would pay the fee of 90 euro to cover the shipping cost.
Then the catch.....
I got a email from this website www.zoomlogisticinternational.com informing me that they had checked out "MY" car and it was fine and ready for shipping all i had to do was forward the 900 euro to the company and they would hold the 900 euro and give me 5 days to decide weather i want the car or not and forward the money then onto wich ever party they had to.
I just had to dig deeper then so i took a look at the website which i think is ither duplicate of similar site or the scam gose and tryed to contact this pretty impressive looking company full of self praise it seemed.
and not to my surprise no one answered infact there wasnt even a answering machine or phone menu.
It was at this point i going to try catch this guy out so i used my iPhone to email him pretending to be a differnt buyer altogether and the same story with in the same order came back to me.
I thanked my lucky stars i didnt pay the 900euro but what frightened me was how close i was to being scamed.
And i cant imagian how many people this guy has got already tak a look at this site too as its the same story http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081124152101AAGeM2S

This has resulted me in avoiding carbuyer sites untill these sites can protect us from these kinda scams and i figure what good is there site without us the buyers?.

Below i have added the emails so you can see how this guy works

they have a phone number on the website . you can call them . I spoke with somebody yesterday--- On Tue, 6/1/09, wrote:

Dear customer ,
I am so glad to see you interested . First of all I have to tell you that the car is in good condition, has no technical damage at all, no scratches no hidden defects and no involved in any accidents . I have worked in Ireland for the last 4 years and I’ve purchased the car there. My team-work wanted me back home, so currently I’m in Athene,Greece.I left
the car in London,UK at one my friends.
Right now the car is in London,UK on garage keept.I decided that is better to sell it because the price to bring it here in Greece is to high . Also here in Athene the cars are left hand drive .It's very hard to drive a right hand car here. I realize that is a cheap price for such a car but my special situation makes me do things that I wouldn’t do in normal circumstances. The price I am looking for my car is €900. If you decide to buy the car I can take a fly to London, take the car and meet you in Ireland. I can email you some pictures and more details about it . Let me know what your decision is !Thank you in advance !

Neil ,

Like I said before the car have all documents including service book to make the sale. I called my friend few minutes ago.He said don't have enough time to meet you in Ireland . He is a business man and have to work hard these days .

He accept to use a shipping company to bring the car to your place ; the process is very easy and he just sold a car two weeks ago and this is why he know how it works.Total cost for shipping will be around to 90euro and I accept to cover all. This way I can save the money for plane ticket to return in UK. My friend gave me the shipping company website wich is http://zoom-logistic.t35.com/ . Just take a look on it.

This company will handle the delivery of the car and also they will handle all the registration papers. If we will use it you will have 5 days to inspect the car before you decide to buy it.You will send the money to the company and they will bring you the car.If you decide to keep the car they will send me the money in Athens on my familly account. If not they will make a complete refunds. If you accept all terms and conditions must register with they and send me an email..My friend can leave the car at company tomorrow first thing in the morning .
Thank you in advance !

Dr.Aostolakis Clementidis ,

  2. Thanks, you have helped me to save some money!
Exactly the same has happened to me (in South Africa) except that I have seen your post before spend more time and probably money with this.
I've always suspect that it was a scam, because he always try to escape when I propose myself to go and see the car...
Once again, thank you very much.
